Turquoise & Chrysocolla 925 Sterling Silver - Ben Davis - Ed Lohman

Turquoise and chrysocolla can occur together in copper-rich deposits, and this stone gives you a really good look at both. Bright turquoise-blue runs through softer blue-green and earthy green material, with natural boundaries and inclusions left visible throughout the cabochon. Instead of being a uniform blue, the different minerals and host material tell you a little more about what was happening where the stone formed.

Chrysocolla develops in the oxidized portions of copper deposits, where circulating water interacts with copper-bearing minerals. Turquoise can form under similar near-surface conditions, which is why the two can sometimes be found together. Those changing mineral concentrations are responsible for the different blues, greens, and patterns you see across the stone.

Ben Davis cut and polished this cabochon to preserve as much of that natural variation as possible. Ed Lohman then built the sterling silver setting and finished the pendant with one of his turquoise inlay bales, carrying that brighter blue from the center stone into the silverwork.
