Larvikite is an intrusive igneous rock of Permian age that consists mainly of feldspar (plagioclase). Typical of this very popular decorative stone is the lovely shimmering blue color caused by light refraction within the feldspars. Depending on the angle of the light, those feldspar crystals can come alive with flashes of blue and silver, making every piece unique.

Named after the town of Larvik in southern Norway, this remarkable stone has become one of the country's most recognizable natural treasures. It has been quarried for generations and is used around the world as an architectural stone, but I think some of the most beautiful pieces are the ones small enough to wear.
