Purple labradorite is one of the weird obsessions of Bens. Regular labradorite is famous for its flashes of blue and green, but a natural purple flash is far less common. Depending on the angle and light, this pendant shifts between deep charcoal and vivid shades of violet, magenta, and blue.

Like all labradorite, this stone is a feldspar formed deep within slowly cooling magma. Its remarkable color isn't caused by pigments, but by microscopic layers inside the crystal that bend and scatter light. This phenomenon, known as labradorescence, creates the glowing flashes that seem to appear from within the stone itself.

In Inuit tradition, labradorite was believed to contain the frozen light of the aurora borealis. While that belongs to folklore rather than geology, it's easy to understand how the legend began. When the light catches the stone just right, it seems to glow from within.
