Petrified Wood "Bevo"

$136.00

We nicknamed this pendant "Bevo" after the University of Texas mascot because of its rich burnt orange color. The stone was cut from a slab I received from a friend, and its warm color immediately reminded me of Longhorn country.

Petrified wood begins as a living tree that was buried millions of years ago. Over time, mineral-rich groundwater gradually replaced the wood's organic material with silica, preserving the original grain while turning it to stone. The result is a gemstone that still carries the character of the ancient tree it once was.

This one-of-a-kind cabochon was hand cut by Ben Davis and set in solid .925 sterling silver. Its bold orange color, natural cream banding, and simple setting let the beauty of the fossilized wood speak for itself.
