Lapis Lazuli Sterling Silver Earrings | Elysium
Lapis lazuli has been treasured for more than 6,000 years, with some of the world's most historically significant deposits found in the mountains of Afghanistan. Unlike most gemstones, lapis lazuli is a rock rather than a single mineral, composed primarily of blue lazurite, often with white calcite and golden pyrite. Formed through contact metamorphism of limestone, its distinctive blue comes from sulfur-containing compounds within the crystal structure of lazurite. Ancient Egyptians carved lapis into jewelry and ceremonial objects, while Renaissance painters relied on the stone to produce ultramarine, one of the most expensive blue pigments in history.
These sterling silver hook earrings feature polished lapis lazuli framed by flowing, hand-shaped silver curves. They are handcrafted in Mexico by silversmiths working with Elysium, one of our favorite artisan jewelry companies. At Ben Davis Designs, we carefully seek out artisans whose craftsmanship we trust, and Elysium's work is among our personal favorites. Clear silicone backs are included for a secure fit.
In the metaphysical world, lapis lazuli is associated with wisdom, truth, and self-expression. It is believed to encourage clear communication, self-awareness, and inner peace.
